The Woman Behind Kaypee Baby Maternity & Nursing Wear

She works full-time in a utilities company and also nurses full-time. (She’s been at it for more than 2 years now.)   She is an electronics engineer who ventured into designing maternity and nursing wear. Meet and learn from  the head honcho of  my favorite nursing brand Kaypee Baby, who would like to be known simply as Gorgeous Kaypee Baby Mommy.  She is too modest to reveal her name and show her face, but believe me, she is gorgeous inside and out, as this Q&A will reveal.

Q. What inspired you to make the Kaypee Baby brand?
A.  I wanted to provide affordable and fashionable nursing wear options in the Philippines. I wanted to provide clothes na kapag sinuot ng mommies, sasabihin nila na “ang sexy ko naman“.
Q.  How did you start the business?
A. I met a mommy vendor in a Babypalooza Baazar 2 years ago.  I was still pregnant with my child back then.  We became friends and she introduced me to the world of hosting group buys.  She eventually became my mentor.  Her name is Joyce.  She taught me how to sell at FB groups.  Parent’s Circle Pasabuy and Tipid Nanay ware the first groups which I was able to try selling different baby stuff.  It was mid 2015 (May or June) where I first had a taste of the bulk selling world.  Our first products include overalls and babylegs.  Many others from the groups have mentored me as well.  I owe them a lot.
Also, I did lots of research on which niche to try until I was told by Joyce to try to focus on a particular segment. I am a breastfeeding advocate (still nursing a 2 yr 3 month old kid) and noticed that most nursing wear available are expensive. I was able to introduce Flowy version 1 on september 2015 but noticed declining sales (probably nabentahan ko na silang lahat).
March 2016, there is an event which made me angry so I channeled all those energy to our brand Kaypee Baby, focused on the nursing wears we sell today and it eventually took off.  God is really good kasi probably if it did not happen, Kaypee Baby is not what we are today. By the way.  We started with a php5,000 capital.  those were the only funds available back then.  *Sob
Q. When did you start having outlets?
A. Outlets came late 2016.  September to November.  The Robinsons Metroeast outlet, nadaanan ko lang because we are near the place while yung Podium, I researched it sa Instagram. I was initially rejected sa Robinsons  pero ang kulit ko kasi, I sent an email then naligayan siguro sa pictures namin, we got accepted.  Our Greenhills branch just opened this year.
Q. Where do you get your design ideas?
A. I get design ideas sa paligidAs in yung mga Ortigas officemates ko, they dress pretty well.  I am quite skinny (except sa tyan) and the clothes you see there are either my clothes from years ago or kung anong nakita ko sa daan recently.
Since I know the difficulties of  breastfeeding, I make solutions.
By the way I am an Electronics Engineer graduate from a university na bahain.  Siguro kaya medyo analytical ako mag-isip.  I love solving problems.  Problema natin ang maitim na kili-kili?  E di we made the Empress Dress.  Haha,  takip ang kili-kili, kita pa shoulders.

Q. I noticed that most are free size, how do you make sure your dresses and blouses fit differently sized moms?
A. Sa tela, dapat stretch, tsaka lagyan ng garter.

Q. How do you make your prices affordable?
A. Dapat hindi complicated yung designs.  Kasi may cost ang bawat ek-ek. Buy tela in bulk.
Q. How often do you restock and change your collections?
A. Dati, we restock monthly, ngayon, weekly na. or twice a week.  Depende kung maalala namin mag-restock.  Nababaliw na din kami kakasagot ng tanong na: “When are you restocking?”

Q. Any tips for the nursing moms out there?
A. Tiis mode lang tayo. I had 4 hr straight feeding session with my baby before.  Nakaka- loka yun.  Growth spurt era, ganun talaga. Believe in yourself.  Wag mag-iintroduce ng formula.  Gastos na, hihina pa ang gatas. Pray syempre and thank the Lord for everything.  See the good in others, in bad situations.
Also, be a blessing to others.  One of my dreams is to give jobs.  I am grateful that it is slowly being realized.Like sana we have jobs here para hindi na mag-abroad ang mga Filipino.
Q. You are also a mommy with no nanny. What are the joys and challenges of not having a yaya?
A. I am actually blessed with a husband who is super maasikaso. On being nanny-less, hubby stays with the kid. Kaypeetita (pinsan) mans Kaypeebaby (hubby helps din though) and I work full time. Joys, sa work, di ako nag-aalala.  Panatag ang loob.  Challenges, parang wala naman.  Andyan kasi ang lolo lola sa paligid plus yung tita, sya yung manager ng Kaypeebaby, kaya pwede baggage counter ng bata sa lolo/lola or sa tita.
