Dinosaurs in Heaven

“Mommy, can you be with me?”  Mishca asked.

She was watching a video for Science class  and the topic, she shared, scared her. It was about dinosaurs.

“Because they are showing scary pictures of dinosaurs. They do not look like the ones I saw,” Mishca explained to me.

Then she draw this picture to show me what they really look like.

When she was 3 years old, Mishca came to us one day with a confession. She said that one night as she laid in bed, a tunnel opened and she went up to this beautiful place where everything was lit up. And there were no shadows. An angel came up to her and gave her beautiful pink robe to wear. It was supposed to be white, she said, but since they knew her favorite color, she was granted that!

In that place she saw a big river with many fruit trees on its banks. There was a big party being prepared and there were chairs and tables in a big garden.

When Mishca shared this with me, I was incredulous. I surmised that  it’s  one of those make believe worlds that kids her age conjure up. However, four years later, she is still adamant that she did not make the story up.

In that same place, Mishca shared that she played with dinosaurs in a big open field.

“They look like stuffed animals with a smile on their faces,” she shared, “They do not look like the ones in the books with a demonic look.”

I told her that maybe she was right. I explained that paleontologists just illustrated the look of dinosaurs based on the fossils that they found. It is hard to really picture an animal based on its bone structure. What if the panda were extinct and we were asked to draw a panda based on its remains? Will we come up with an animal as gentle and cuddly as this beloved Chinese creature or will we conjure  up a wild, scary beast?  It is all in our imagination.

Only God knows what those dinosaurs really look like.

In her lesson, we learned that the word dinosaur was coined by Richard Owen in 1842. That is why the word dinosaur is not found in the Bible, which was written thousands of years ago. However,  the Bible mentions  big beasts like the behemoth and the leviathan.

Mishca’s revelation reminds me of a passage in the Bible that talks about children playing with wild beasts, which many theologians say speaks of heaven or the new earth, where there is no more sin, rebellion or death:

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea. –Isaiah 11 KJV

Do you believe that there is  such a place? Do you know where you will go when this earth fades away? The Bible says that those who receive Jesus like a little child will be with Him forever in paradise. Would you like to make Jesus your Lord today?

Jesus said:”For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”-John 3:16

“I am the way, the truth and the life; No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” -John 14:6

If you want to have this promise, pray this simple prayer from your heart:  Dear God, I need you. I do not know where I am going. I do not know where my life is heading. I ask you to forgive me of my sins. I receive Jesus Christ now as my Lord. Thank you for sending him to earth to die for my sins and give me eternal life. I surrender my life to you. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to be my Teacher and Counselor. Make  yourself real to me and make me the person that you created me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.
