Those Three Words

This afternoon she did it again. Waking up from her afternoon nap,the first words that escaped from my 30- month-old daughter’s words as she groggily sat up were:

“I love Mommy!”

Those were the exact words she uttered two mornings ago as she woke up beside me  in our darkened bedroom. The fact that she just came from a deep sleep makes the utterance  so sincere and endearing.

The other day, she was drinking milk in bed, she whispered: “I love you, Mommy. I don’t want a yaya (babysitter).” Then she used her free arm to cling to my neck and draw me into a tight hug.

What a sweet child!

Those three words make all the sacrifices– being a mommy with no nanny, nursing till dawn, the changing and laundering of smelly diapers and the endless storytelling until I’m hoarse–so worth it.

Those three little words make me want to be a better mom, a better person.  And  make me so want to bless my daughter!

I wonder if this is also how God feels as  a parent when we spontaneously give Him the worship He deserves.  Maybe that is why He said in Psalm 50:23: “True praise is a worthy sacrifice; this really honors me. Those who walk my paths will receive salvation from the Lord.”
